Hi, my name is Joep van der Poel and I am the founder of Smart Morning Routine. First of all, I would like to say that it is awesome to have you here on this site! Part of an introduction I wanted to let you in my personal morning routine journey and how it has transformed my life.
Like most people, I immensely struggled with finding the right balance in my life. Currently, I am located in Guangzhou, South China, where I work and live with my girlfriend Teresa. Guangzhou is a very interesting place to live and I cherish the opportunity that I have to be here. While immensely enjoying my stay in China, I have to admit that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is a continuous struggle.
As a passionate reader, I somehow was never able to find the time to read something, or to work on a small project besides work. During the day, I would often struggle to keep my energy levels up, by the time I got home I was completely drained and unable to do anything.
I started to feel discontent with my days and myself. It wasn’t for long that I realized that I needed a change…
My Eureka moment!
The term morning routine was something that I had been coming across for quite some time, but it wasn’t until I heard Tony Robbins morning routine, when I had my eureka moment. All of sudden it all made sense to me.
First let me state it clearly that I am in no way a morning person. I was the kind of the person who would snooze five times, quickly take a shower and eat my breakfast while going to work. Yeah, not healthy! For me to even consider a morning routine was beyond my wildest imagination.
From the start I knew that I shouldn’t start with something too big to take on, I would inevitably give up over time. I was already looking at starting paying more attention to physical exercise and I had just read something about the 7-minute workout, heck why not hit two birds with one stone!
The first days I would have to push myself, yes you read that right, to get out of bed. I started waking up 15 minutes earlier and commit myself to do the 7-minute workout at least every working day of the week. First days, I have to admit, were horrible. My entire body was against the idea of waking up earlier to commit to physical exercise.
The second week a whole new world opened up for me. I would wake up with ease, and I was looking forward to my morning workout! Soon I decided to add more components to my morning routine, waking up earlier and more energetic over time.
Now I noticeably have more energy during my day, I commute to my work singing and full of appreciation for the day. All of sudden I find myself to read more than I did the past years, I pick up personal projects and I am more focused than ever before! I use my mornings to focus on myself and work towards my goals, and I feel like I have a whole new day before my working day starts.
After experiencing the immense impact my morning routine had on my day, I decided to found Smart Morning Routine. I hope that my story inspires you to embark on this journey so that you too, can seize every minute of every day!
