Tony Robbins is a famous life coach, bestseller author, and philanthropist. He is has coached almost everybody from Serena Williams to Bill Clinton and pretty much everybody in between. Some of Tony Robbins most known books include: Awaken the Giant Within, Unlimited Power and his most recent book Money: Master the Game.
If you haven’t read anything from Tony Robbins, I encourage you to do so immediately. I greatly enjoyed Tony Robbins latest book and it encouraged me to pick up some of his earlier work. Tony is an inspiring motivational speaker that aims to enrich the lives of the people around him by coaching them and help them to get ahead in life.
Tony Robbins worked with a lot of athletes during his career and he considers to be one himself. Tony organizes a lot of events where he teaches Mastery Courses to his ‘students’ over the course of several days. What Tony uses is a term that is also popular in language learning called immersion. Tony does not stand on stage and gives a motivational talk with a couple of slides on a screen. His events are full of life and interaction, his audience is fully part of the process, the environment, and the growth together.
Likewise, such way of performing has a big toll on one’s body. To prepare his mind and body for top performance, Tony has an extensive routine that he has established over the years. These routines set the right mindset for world-class performance and prepare you to be fully focused and on top of your game.
Tony Robbins’ Morning Routine
The Morning Routine of Tony Robbins is all focused on setting his mood, mind and body for the day. Besides physical exercise, Tony implements routines that focus on his mind and emotion. Tony has worked with many athletes and believes that one’s mind is where our true power is. Tony’s morning routine is mostly focused on the exercise of body and mind and this will be our focus when dissecting his routine.
1) Physical Exercise
A fit and healthy body is the vehicle of a conscious mind, hence why it is important to keep fit. Physical exercise offers serious benefits to your body and mind in the long run and starting with this in the morning sets the right mindset for the rest of the day. Exercise in the morning also helps to increase your energy levels for the rest of the day and help you to have a better mood overall. A morning exercise does not have to be cumbersome and even a short but well-crafted exercise routine can have long lasting benefits.
2) Ice Bath
After Tony finishes his morning exercise he jumps in the Jacuzzi to relax and ease his muscles. Like most of us you probably do not have a Jacuzzi but a shower after your physical exercise will do just fine. An ice bath opens up your nerves system and helps to open up your mind and it clears your focus. Many countries believe the power of an ice bath and it is a common practice in parts of Northern Europe, Russia, and China.
It is believed that an ice bath helps to combat micro-trauma in your muscle fibers and help with overall soreness in your body. An ice bath constricts blood vessels and it flushes waste products in your body to help you maintain better overall fitness.
After Tony finishes his ice bath he uses cryotherapy to expose his body to subzero temperatures. Cryotherapy can be localized or whole-body exposure and helps to decrease inflammation, increases cellular survival, decreases pains and increases overall health. Tony Robbins does not do cryotherapy every day but in a recent interview with Tim Ferriss he stated he does it at least 3 times per week depending on his schedule.
Cryotherapy consists of subzero cold but without the water (or ice in this case). You might know cryotherapy for the treatment of skin conditions such as moles and warts.
Aside from the treatment of skin conditions, cryotherapy is also great for the mind and mental condition of the body. It invigorates the mind, improves your sleep pattern and reduces stress & anxiety.
So how can this help you?
You might wonder how the above can benefit you and your morning routine. Cryotherapy is expensive and not widely available and you might think that taking an ice bath every morning is too much hassle. Well, that is true, but the lesson here is important.
What the morning routine of Tony Robbins shows is the importance of exposing our body, mind and nerves system to cold and the effect this has on our overall well-being. You do not have to start immediately with taking ice baths or finding the nearest cryotherapy in your area.
You could start exposing your body to cold temperatures under the shower. If you couple this exercise with breath meditation where you focus on controlling your breath pattern you could already improve your mental health and mindfulness.
